The Power Chord Braille Keyboard enables students to practice their braille writing skills by entering the answers to the SAL2 writing exercises on an electronic braille keyboard. When the SAL2 virtual tutor asks the student to complete a writing exercise, they simply turn to the Power Chord Braille Keyboard and begin brailling. They receive immediate feedback from SAL2 as to the accuracy of their writing and they experience the feel of using an electronic braille keyboard.
This simple unit plugs in to the USB port of a computer. There are no additional cables, drivers or software needed. The keyboard is laid out like one on a braille notetaker. The Power Chord Braille Keyboard can also be used for 6-key entry of braille in any braille transcription software program, such as Duxbury, MegaDots, or Braille 2000.
The Power Chord Editor is a simple software application for use with the Power Chord Braille Keyboard. Words and characters are spoken aloud as they are entered in either contracted or uncontracted literary braille. The computer monitor shows the simulated braille on screen and the student can easily toggle to show the print view.
